One question I have always asked is "how does the computer do what it does? Why is it that when I click on the keyboard a very specific action occurs and relays it to the screen?". After some very intense research, I can conclude that the computer is a cause and effect machine that can achieve almost every task with ease.
Computers process data into information and often store the data and resulting information for future use. Data may be in the form of text, numbers, images, audio, and videos. Information conveys the meaning of the data to users in a way we understand in the form of output.
So to start, if we want to create a letter. So we boot up the Word Document App and we start to type away on the keyboard and use the mouse to click on important tools to achieve the desired letter. Typing on the keyboard and usage of point device(aka mouse) is a type of input. This input sends signals to the computer and changes these signals into data. Other forms of input may be voice and video, and scanners.
Now the computer responds to the data input and conveys it into text, graphic, audio, and videos in a way that is understandable to the users. Examples of output are printers, monitors, and speakers.
Lastly, how does the computer remember tasks without of having to go through the entire process of input and output? Through memory and storage of course! For example, when the letter from earlier is needed for editing. The computer won't use the Paint App to open it because it's wired to think that specific files are opened only by specific apps. Thank god for the simplicity the computers have brought to us. To store valuable data is a sure fire way to keep them from being deleted and so that we may be able to use them in the future. Great storage devices can be found in the names of hard discs, solid-state drives, USB Flash drives, Memory Cards, Optical Discs, and the most important one Cloud Storage. All this help contribute to make the file-sharing life between users easier.
Thanks to the Data and Information processes of the computer we are able to create, edit, send, and delete files that help with our everyday productivity!
